Is it just me, or is each year coming and going quicker than the last? Summer’s here, school’s out, and us moms are tasked with finding things to do that don’t require a tablet.
I have compiled a list of 25 fun activities to do in the metro over the summer months.
1. Festivals
- 36th Annual Garden Festival at Will Rogers on May 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Paseo Arts Festival on May 23rd – 25th, located in the Paseo Arts District
- First Friday Art Walk (every first Friday of the month), in the Paseo Arts District
- Norman Arts Festival on May 16th, Andrews Park

- Rush Springs Watermelon Festival at Jeff Davis Park in Rush Springs, August 8th at 9:00 a.m.

- Norman Friday Art Walk, every second Friday of the month in downtown Norman at 6:00 p.m.
- Live on the Plaza, July 10th at 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. with fun, art, and plenty of food!

2. Night Markets
- Wheeler Park hosts a night market every fourth Friday until October from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Scissortail Park hosts their night market on the second Friday of every month, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
3. Farmers’ Markets
- Wheeler Park, every Friday (until October 23rd), from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Scissortail Park, every Saturday (until October), from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Oak (new apartments across from Penn Square Mall) holds its farmers’ market in its central greenspace (they haven’t specified which Saturday, but one Saturday a month until October)
- OKC Public Farmers’ Market hosts their market on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Moore also hosts a farmers’ market located at Central Park’s Pavillion every Saturday, until September from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Norman Farmers’ Market operates year-round at the Cleveland County Wellness Square (Tuesdays open from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. until July. Saturdays open from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Keep a lookout on their page, as weather may modify their hours.)
4. Galaxy Con
- Three-day festival from May 22nd to 24th
- Buy tickets here.
5. Zoo
- Breakfast with the animals every Saturday in May. You can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet and then experience giraffe, flamingo, and tortoise feedings!
- Sip & Stroll every Friday in May and June. Guests over 21 are invited to come explore the zoo after hours from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There are beverage-only, food-only, and beverage packages available on their website.

6. Drive-In
- Spend an evening at the oldest drive-in in Oklahoma, Winchester Drive-In!
7. Arcades
- Brickopolis
- Round 1, get some shopping done as the kids play
- HeyDay
- For adult arcades, there’s Up/Down or Flashback Retro Pub

9. Pick Produce at Local Farms
We used to go with our son when he was a baby, and it’s so cute to watch his tiny little hands pick out these gorgeous strawberries.

- McLoud hosts a blackberry festival every summer, which will be held June 19th – 20th, this year!
10. Asian Heritage Month Celebration at Remington Park
- Saturday, May 23rd, at 5:00 p.m.
- Free entry and they welcome all ages!
11. Bricktown Taxi
- Tickets start at $5 for ages 5 and under
12. Firework Shows
- Frontier City is hosting its Star Spangled Night on July 3rd and 4th this year. Hurry, their tickets are on sale now and start at $35.
13. Live Music
- Oklahoma City Philharmonic is doing a FREE, hour-long, concert at Scissortail Park on July 3rd at 8:30 p.m. A show you won’t want to miss!
- Riversport is throwing a Stars & Stripes River Festival on June 27th. Come enjoy boat races throughout the day, food, and live music.
- I know the Norman Music Festival is over, but they have another music festival called Jazz In June from June 18-20th!
14. Movie Nights
- Starting May 27th, Myriad Gardens will be showing a movie on the lawn. So bring your picnic blankets out!
- Food trucks will be there at 7:30 p.m. with a movie to follow.
15. Start a Garden
I have been wanting to be outside more and be a little more green, so we have started a little herb garden. It has been so sweet seeing my son get so excited whenever it’s time to go water the herbs!

17. Bingo and Dining
- There is Singo at Bar Ciccetti every Sunday
- Chicken n Pickle does a breakfast buffet and Bingo every Sunday
- Bingo at Duckie’s every Tuesday
18. Take a Class
- We love the monthly classes that JCP, Lowe’s, and Home Depot offer. Keeps those little hands busy!
- Gymnastics
- Swimming, we have been loving it at Goldfish, but the YMCA also offers swimming classes (discount if you’re a member!)
- Cooking
- Painting

19. Have a Picnic
- Pick your favorite park, bust out those picnic blankets, and enjoy the nice weather with the family.
- Bonus if there’s a playground next to it, wink wink!
20. Indoor Play
For those indoor days, indoor playgrounds are the go-to!
- The Play Pit in Norman

- Slick Cidefinedty in South OKC (they have a toddler time frame on Sundays!)

22. Route 66 Centennial
Can you believe that Route 66 has been around for 100 years? So we are definitely celebrating this year.
- If you haven’t already, go get you a Route 66 Passport! It is SO FUN. You get to see neat places and eat at new restaurants.
- There will be a Route 66 Balloon Festival this year in Arcadia. I will 100% be there. It is September 23rd through the 28th. You can buy tickets online now!
