I recently had family visit Oklahoma for the first time, and I got to play tour guide for three whole weeks! After exploring so many spots, I’ve put together all their favorite places into a 6-day itinerary. Perfect for anyone visiting for the first time.

Oklahoma City has the perfect mix of outdoor adventure, local charm, and family-friendly fun. Here’s a complete itinerary to help you make the most of your time with visitors, from museums to scenic rides and vibrant nightlife.
Day 1: Favorites Along Route 66
Hop on historic Route 66 for a scenic drive. The Round Red Barn is a must-see Oklahoma landmark and photo spot. When the barn was built in 1898, many people believed that a round barn would withstand tornadoes better than a typical barn! The barn often features live musicians, and bonus, admission is free.
Next, stop at POPS in Arcadia to sample a few of their 700+ sodas and snap a few more photos.
Day 2: History, Reflection & Family Fun

Spend the morning at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum; it’s a powerful and moving tribute that’s meaningful for all ages. Pack some tissues.
Next, bring the energy back up at Science Museum Oklahoma, where kids can explore hands-on exhibits and experiment stations.
Or if you have some animal lovers, spend the afternoon at the Oklahoma City Zoo, which is always a hit with kids and adults alike. In the fall, Haunt the Zoo is a fun event!
Day 3: Downtown Magic & Local Art

Start your morning at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, where you can stroll through beautiful blooms, visit the Crystal Bridge Conservatory, or let the kids play in the children’s garden.
After lunch, dive into the colorful creativity of Factory Obscura, an immersive art experience that’s unlike anything else. Fun, quirky, and full of photo-worthy moments.
In the evening, enjoy dinner in the Paseo Arts District. This historic neighborhood is filled with cozy restaurants, local art galleries, and live music.
Day 4: Adventure & Western Heritage

Get your thrills at Six Flags Frontier City, where old-west charm meets modern excitement. From roller coasters to water rides, there’s something for everyone.
In the afternoon, head over to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum to learn more about the spirit of the West, from cowboy art to rodeo history.
Then, cap off the day with a horseback trail ride at Honey Lee Ranch, just outside the city. It’s a beautiful, peaceful experience that lets you soak up Oklahoma’s wide-open landscape and maybe even catch a sunset on horseback. A memory your family won’t soon forget.
Day 5: Markets, Monuments & Sunset Views
Spend the morning at the Scissortail Park Farmers Market, browsing local vendors, grabbing breakfast pastries, and enjoying live music.
Then, visit the breathtaking Centennial Land Run Monument, one of the largest bronze sculptures in the world, capturing the excitement and determination of Oklahoma’s settlers.
In the late afternoon, head to Wheeler Park for a ride on the OKC Ferris Wheel. The views of the skyline and river are stunning at sunset.

Day 6: Bricktown Nights & Family Fun
End your trip with a fun night in Bricktown. Start with dinner and games at Brickopolis Entertainment, where kids can enjoy laser tag, mini golf, and arcade games.
Afterward, take a stroll along the canal or hop on a Bricktown Water Taxi. When the kids are ready for bed, adults can sneak out for a night of line dancing or stop by one of Bricktown’s piano bars for live music and laughs.

Bonus Day: Relax & Explore Like a Local
If you have an extra day, slow things down and explore Midtown or Automobile Alley—both filled with cute shops, brunch spots, and local coffee houses. OKC’s charm really shines when you take your time to wander.
No matter what your family loves—art, food, history, or adventure—Oklahoma City delivers it all. This itinerary blends the best of local culture, outdoor fun, and cozy family moments you’ll treasure long after your visit.
Seasonal Recommendations
If your visitors come in the fall, start with a dose of classic fall fun at one of the city’s pumpkin patches, like Parkhurst Pumpkin Patch or Chester’s Party Barn. Enjoy hayrides, bounce houses, petting zoos, and plenty of fall treats. In summer, do not miss Lake Arcadia.
So grab your camera, lace up your boots, and get ready to make unforgettable memories in the heart of Oklahoma!
