Living in Oklahoma City and trying to stay consistent with a high-protein, low-carb, or keto lifestyle hasn’t always been easy for me. Eating at home is one thing, but once you’re out with kids and friends, it can feel like everything on the menu is working against your goals. However, I’ve found that you can eat almost anywhere in OKC and still stay on track; it just comes down to knowing what to order.

Flower Child
One of my go-to spots when I want something quick but still healthy is Flower Child. I love that I can build exactly what I want instead of trying to “fix” a menu item. I usually go for a salad loaded with chicken or steak, add avocado, and keep the dressing simple. As long as I skip the grains and crunchy toppings, it ends up being the perfect balance of protein and healthy fats without feeling like I’m dieting.
Meddys
Mediterranean food has honestly been one of the easiest ways for me to stay low-carb without even thinking about it. At Meddys, I’ll order chicken shawarma or grilled kebabs and just swap the rice and pita for extra salad. It’s filling, flavorful, and doesn’t leave me feeling heavy after. Plus, adding things like feta and olives makes it feel like I’m treating myself, not restricting.

The Port of Peri Peri
The Port of Peri Peri is such a good option because, let’s be honest, plain “diet food” gets old fast. Their grilled chicken is packed with protein and actually tastes amazing. I just pair it with a side salad or veggies and skip anything fried or sweet, and I’m good.
The Press
I also don’t completely avoid comfort food anymore; I just order it differently. At The Press, I’ve learned to keep it simple: eggs, bacon, avocado. I’ll usually ask for substitutions instead of toast or potatoes, and most places are totally fine with that. It makes a huge difference when you realize you don’t have to give up your favorite kinds of food; you just tweak them a little.
Mahogany Prime Steakhouse
Steakhouses are probably the easiest win for me. Places like Mahogany Prime Steakhouse make it almost effortless to stay keto. A steak with a side of asparagus or broccoli is simple, satisfying, and keeps me full for hours. No overthinking, no complicated ordering.
Make Easy Swaps at Favorite Places
Even the places you’d think are “off limits” really aren’t. If I’m at S&B’s Burger Joint, I just go for a lettuce-wrapped burger. It still hits the same craving, just without the bun. And if we end up somewhere like Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, I’ll order fajitas and skip the tortillas, rice, and beans. It’s one of those small changes that makes a big difference.
For breakfast, Hatch Early Mood Food is such a solid choice. Eggs, bacon, avocado, and just skipping the toast is honestly all it takes.
What I’ve learned over time is that this lifestyle doesn’t have to feel restrictive, even when you’re eating out. For me, it’s really about focusing on protein first, adding healthy fats, and not being afraid to ask for simple swaps. Most places are more accommodating than you think.
As a busy mom here in OKC, I don’t have time to overcomplicate things. I just need options that work in real life, and thankfully, there are plenty of them. Once you figure out how to order, you realize you’re not missing out at all. You’re just choosing what makes you feel your best.
