May Family-Friendly Events in the OKC Metro

Here’s hoping those April showers are behind us because if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that Oklahoma weather keeps you guessing. As the school year winds down, it’s the perfect time to get outside, relax, and enjoy those May flowers and the many family-friendly events happening around the metro this month.

Saddle up for one of Oklahoma City’s most beloved family traditions at the annual Chuck Wagon Festival at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Held May 23–24, this two-day event brings the spirit of the American West to life with hands-on activities, live entertainment, and plenty of flavor.

Families can sample authentic chuck wagon cooking and Indigenous cuisine, watch artisan demonstrations, and explore interactive experiences like rope making, crafts, and Western reenactments. Kids will love the games, face painting, and creative stations, while adults can enjoy live music and cultural storytelling. Don’t miss the chance to explore Liichokoshkomo’ and the museum’s exhibits while you’re there.
