Lesser Known Spots to Take Beautiful Photos in and Around OKC

When it comes to family pictures, I am the absolute worst.

The number of full family photos with all of our children is probably somewhere around three. As my kids have grown, I have tried to be more intentional with capturing the moments I never want to forget. However, there is one thing about me: I like to think outside of the box. Whether you want professional pictures for holiday cards, graduation announcements, or just a fun shot for social media, Oklahoma City is not short of options that will fit your family vibe.

Oklahoma is, no doubt, full of great places to take pictures. I’d like to do something different and start with some alternative, less trendy spots. There are hundreds of articles on all of the already loved spaces, so you can be the trendsetter!

If you are looking for a unique style and atmosphere, consider visiting one of your local favorite businesses.

Let’s face it, a lot of businesses have a fun aesthetic that we love. Not only does it feel less staged, but it also gives you a peek into the family’s personalities.

Roxy’s Ice Cream

With a fun retro soda pop feel, the experience is perfect to capture a genuine moment of one of the simplest pleasures in life . . . ice cream! With several metro locations, you can not only enjoy the shop but also explore the surrounding areas.

Full Circle Books

Even if you don’t read a lot of books, we can all agree that they, at the very least, look pretty cool. Full Circle Books, which is located in 50 Penn Place, has a very vintage feel for a modern day. The outside creates a magical background, like something taken from the pages of a Harry Potter book.

One of my personal favorites would be rural Oklahoma.

Some of the best pictures are the ones taken in towns and cities around our Oklahoma City Metro. For example, with the rich history of Guthrie, there is a certain small-town feel that warms the heart and brings the beauty and simplicity to life.

Guthrie, Oklahoma

Yukon, Oklahoma

The Yukon Silos gives you the smalltown feel without having to travel too far out of the metro. It’s a versatile background that could work for any occasion. Located right in the heart of Yukon, you can also have fun with some snapshots on their main street.

In true Oklahoma fashion, we never know what season we will be in day to day.

If you are concerned about the weather that day, studios are another option to capture those moments. With studios, you have the option to rent, decorate, and do it yourself. If that is something you don’t want to mess with, most studios also have an in-house photographer who can do the heavy lifting for you.

Magnolia Studios

Magnolia Studios is an indoor photography venue that you can rent. You can use it as a blank canvas or choose from the setups with multiple seating options, a bed for lifestyle pictures, and holiday setups. You can be your own photographer, bring another photographer, or you can hire the owner, Sarah Thompson, who is a professional photographer.

Sarah of Magnolia Studios is offering 10% off any studio bookings from now until the end of the year. Just enter Promo Code: OKCMOMS10 at checkout.

White Moose Studios

With several locations all over the metro, White Moose Studios offers a blank canvas as well. For every season, they have a staged background that they set up. Pets are even allowed in studios! We all know that to some, pets are part of the family, so for a small deposit, you can include your furry family member indoors. Check out their website for locations, prices, and any other questions you may have.

For the nature-loving, outdoorsy feel, Oklahoma has a ton of outdoor parks that pair so well with our one-of-a-kind sunset skies.

Martin Park

This park is great for the nature lovers. Full of beautiful foliage, this makes a perfect backdrop in the fall or any time of year.

Will Rogers Park

Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City is a whimsical fairytale of flowers and fountains. A very versatile park with a lot of options, you can find a spot for anyone to love.

Downtown/Bricktown Tunnels

The Downtown/Bricktown area is full of photography gold. With tunnels connecting the city underground, this is perfect for a geographically unique twist to any photos. Lots of fun lighting and murals line the walls of the tunnels. Underground Downtown is a modern and fun backdrop to any occasion.

The Wheeler District

Lights, Camera, Photos: OKC Family Picture HotspotsI am sure we are all familiar with some of the more fun and popular spots. You have, of course, a household name . . . the Wheeler District!

Plaza District and Paseo Art District

Both of the districts give a very eclectic and funky twist to any photo. From the fun architecture to the mural walls, you can get creative with your vision. Versatile storefronts and landscape match whatever vibe you want in your pictures.

Downtown Parking Garages

And finally, if you aren’t afraid of heights and want the Oklahoma City skyline behind you, car parks downtown are a fun way to get an up close look at our beloved and growing skyline.
