Family-Style Meals for Dining In or Out in OKC

Mealtimes with family never get old. Nothing better than the feeling of everyone together and enjoying a meal. Coming from a Vietnamese-American household, we adore eating together, especially family style. Whether I am out at a restaurant or at home, we are typically sharing a meal.

At home, it’s usually a few proteins, a soup, and at least one vegetable dish. At a restaurant, it’s free game. The more the merrier is what I preach!

If you’re like me, a super indecisive individual, family style is just the way to go. You get to try several things, and you get to order the things you couldn’t decide between. Definitely a win-win.

I absolutely love being wild and ordering every appetizer and/or dessert. I just can’t help myself. If I am with a group of people, it makes the decisions easier. I treat it like I will never come back to the restaurant again, and I have to try every single item!

Here are a few of my favorite spots where I’ve had a shared meal with family.

Chow’s

3303 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73107

One of our all-time favorite restaurants. We come here often. We love to celebrate birthdays and special events here. The must-get here is the salt and pepper tofu, the orange peel beef, and the walnut shrimp. YUM!

Ma Der

1634 N Blackwelder Ave, Suite 102, Oklahoma City, OK 73106

The plates are meant to be shared here!

Noodles and Dumplings

13900 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73134

Another favorite!

Grand House

2701 N Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73106

Golden Phoenix

2728 N Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73106

Grand House and Golden Phoenix are standard Chinese restaurants where you can order several dishes to share, but I come here for their dim sum. Dim sum is meant to be shared with friends and family. It consists of a wide variety of small, bite-sized dishes: dumplings, buns, eggrolls, and more. They come with just three or four pieces, and plates of noodles or soup are on the smaller scale. Traditionally they come around with a cart, but they can also carry around trays to each table.

It’s a lovely brunch experience, and it’s delicious. One of our favorite ways to spend a Sunday morning with our loved ones.

Butcher’s BBQ Stand

3402 U.S. Rte 66, Wellston, OK 74881

Our all-time favorite BBQ place, and we ALWAYS share our meal. Here they have their “meat locker.” It consists of six meats (they don’t include their burnt ends), a choice of three sides, Twinkies, and bread/pickles and onions. It’s perfect to share and a great way to try all of their meats!

You have to hurry, though; they sell out quickly. Even on their menu, their closing time just says “until sold out.” It’s that good!

Tarahumara

702 N Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071

I am a big fan of their chips and queso. Sometimes I do overindulge on the chips, and I barely touch my meal. When that’s the case, we just get the family-size fajitas and share it with the entire table. Their biggest size serves up to six. We did it once for a birthday dinner, and we still talk about it!

Pictured is just a double plate, the family size is larger.

Tokyo

7512 N Western Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73116

We come here maybe twice a year, but only when it’s someone’s birthday because they have the most beautiful sushi boat. It’s a dream. They have two sizes, but it’s really fun to get the big one.

If you’re looking to stay in the comfort of your own home, there are plenty of great choices for family-style takeout!

Mo’ Bettahs

5 locations around the metro

They have a great family meal deal for four or six people. Trust me when I say, you can feed six on the four deal. We love getting it for family gatherings.

Cheddar’s

4 locations around the metro

I love getting their chicken tender family deal. It feeds at least six, and at $30, that’s only $5 per person! I often get this deal for corporate office events, too. It’s always such a hit, quick and easy.

Firebirds Wood-Fired Grill

1320 W Memorial Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73114

They have a little over a dozen family meal deals to choose from! So no matter the budget, they have it all from $40 to $80.

Oliveto

1301 S I-35 Service Rd, Moore, OK 73160

It’s a little more expensive, but serves 10-12! So that’s about $7 per person for a pasta meal. A great deal.

Blake’s BBQ

5801 S Sooner Rd, Suite D, Oklahoma City, OK 73135

Another classic, easy meal to share. With a meal serving four to five people, this is another great way to feed a small family on a busy weeknight.

Plenty of restaurants, from chains to local, offer some sort of family-style meal. The options are endless! Pizza is a classic choice, wings are also great to share, and even a taco bar is delicious!

Another hack for these family meals is that, even if you don’t plan to share it with family, you can always buy it to save money. That’s lunch and dinner for at least two or three days. Makes it easy to meal prep, too!
