I’ve always loved organization. Although, I don’t always have the cleanest house, my heart skips a beat when I get the chance to reorganize my pantry or when my medicine cabinet gets an overhaul. When I was growing up, I would frequently rearrange and reorganize my room just for my own satisfaction. And when I’d go to my cousin’s house to play, I’d convince her to clean and organize her room while I was there.
Seriously, I love all things having their own place.
(I once watched a show about hoarders and wanted to throw up, scream, and break my TV all at the same time. It was torture for me.)
Anyways, I’m just over halfway through my 3rd pregnancy and the nesting bug has hit me. January is the PERFECT time to organize in my opinion. (It’s as if my home gets the chance to have a new year too!) Many stores offer storage bins, baskets, you name it, on sale during this month, so why not take advantage?
I hate those sayings that are all over the web about having a messy house and full hearts. Yes, they are sweet and my lovely little girls mean more to me than an empty sink, but I’ve learned that I just have a hard time truly giving them my complete attention (longer than 2 board games that is) if there are piles on my counters.
Yes, it’s sad. And I don’t like that about myself. But, I’m embracing it this new year and not letting my need for order control my family time.
As we are counting down for baby girl #3 to enter our lives, I’m getting prepared. Each week, I’m focusing on one room (or space in our home) and purging, organizing, deep cleaning, and labeling/pricing for the upcoming garage sale season. Some spaces won’t take as long as others (the front hallway closet), and some may take longer (the guest bedroom/junk room/soon-to-be nursery).
Knowing that I have a plan to be tackling each area in my home in the coming weeks is calming to me. It makes it so much more enjoyable to play dolls with my girls for 15 more minutes, or read just 1 more book before naps each day.
For the last two years, I have had our games well within reach of our kid’s little hands. Recently they have been ALL over the floor about 75% of the day. Thanks to this post, a light bulb went on and I moved them up high, switching them with toys they play with a lot! Thanks for the tip!
Glad I could help! 🙂 If we don’t keep the games out of reach, pieces end up getting lost and then the games aren’t as fun.
