Peeing Alone…and Other Things I Did Before I Had Kids

Parenthood means that we teach our kids between right and wrong. We teach them about the world around us. We teach them to sleep through the night (hopefully) and to tie their shoes. Being a parent is full of moments to teach our little ones, but I did not realize how much I would learn myself from the opportunity of being a mother. Combined with other OKC Moms Blog contributors, here’s a list that maybe you can relate with.

before kids

Before I had kids… I didn’t know how much there was to know about poop. And the word “poop” wasn’t used daily.

Before I had kids… I always knew where my toothbrush was.

Before I had kids… I didn’t have to beg or force my dinner companions to eat their food.

Before I had kids… I took a shower more than once a week.

Before I had kids… I didn’t realize that it was possible for the interior of my car to look like a Sonic explosion on wheels.

Before I had kids… I didn’t understand the horror of discovering a sippy cup full of milk from WHO KNOWS WHEN.

Before I had kids… I used the restroom alone.

Before I had kids… I never knew the power of a magic eraser.

Before I had kids… I didn’t realize how to appreciate silence.

Before I had kids… I had never heard the name Caillou.

Before I had kids… I didn’t have to walk around my house like a ninja after 8 pm.

Before I had kids… I took for granted how awesome a full night of sleep is!

Before I had kids… My hair was always fixed. Now I’m not even sure I know how to fix my hair.

Before I had kids… I thought my kids would be perfect.

Before I had kids…. I didn’t fully appreciate a mug that will hold a whole bottle of wine.

Before I had kids… No one had used me as a tissue or napkin.

Before I had kids… I couldn’t name any of the Paw Patrol (or their catch phrases).

Before I had kids… I was really into music and loved hearing new bands. Now I have “the ants go marching one by one” in my head all day. Everyday.

Before I had kids… I drank a full cup of coffee in the morning… and it was hot!

Before I had kids… I never ran out of storage on my phone.

Before I had kids… I could not comprehend why moms would leave the house looking like a hot mess. I totally get it now.

Before I had kids… I didn’t know how to remove gum from hair, clothing, or carpet.

But truly, before I had kids… I didn’t know that I was capable of loving another human being so much.
